Instructions and rider information for the 18th Hope Valley Mountain Bike Challenge:

There will be ample parking at HVC.  Please follow signs for the school car park, which is, approaching from Hope village, a left turn immediately after passing Hope Valley College  Gates will be open from 7am and breakfast butties will be available.


Signing on will be at the Registration Area located at the rear of Hope Valley College.

You can sign on any time between 8-9am.

You will be given your event number and cable ties to attach it to your bike. 

If you did not fully complete, or, sign your entry form/disclaimer you will be asked to do so at registration. You will also be asked to leave a car registration number if you have parked in the car park.  This enables us to ensure all riders are back -  Allow time to do this so you do not miss the start.  

Emergency and Organiser Contact:

Please ensure you have this number in your phone before you start the event. If there is a genuine emergency on the route please ring the emergency services first and then the event organiser/s Louise Charles - 07768364527 or  (Richard Beeden).  07714 341 477  

Start and Finish area:

The START  is direct from the college, right onto Castleton Road then left at the Spar continue over bridge and right to  Fulwood Stile Lane (‘Roman Road’) off Edale Road in Hope. 


Riders will be set off together at 9.30am or when ready following registration

The FINISH is the Registration Area at HVC .

Route and Navigation:

The route is signed and marshalled.

HOWEVER, please ensure you have downloaded the route information, are familiar with your chosen course distance and carry your map and/or other independent means of navigation with you.

If you do find yourself off course, please use your map and/or other independent means of navigation to try and get back on it.

If you become completely lost, ring the organiser contact number - we will try to talk you back onto the course, or, back to the finish area at HVC.

If it becomes obvious that signs have been tampered with anywhere on the route, please contact the organiser, or, report it to other event staff/marshalls immediately so this can be remedied.   

There will be an event back-marker rider

VERY IMPORTANT - Completion of the course and notification of your whereabouts:

If you do not complete the course, or, choose to cut it short you MUST inform the organisers. Notify either an official course marshall, or, ring the organiser contact number provided. Failure to do so may result in the emergency services being called. Upon completion of the course you MUST sign in at the finish so we know you have finished safely and can also record your ride time. Failure to do so may result in the emergency services being called.  


The feed-stations are at the following locations: Edale, Hayfield, Rushup Edge as usual we will have first aid kits, water, flapjacks, brownies, jelly babies to help keep you going.

Pre Event Food :

There will be on sale bacon & sausage butties served from 7am

Post Event Food:

At the finish there will be complimentary tea, coffee, homemade soup and a bread roll.

A commemorative event gift – this year gift is yet to be announced

Quality spot prizes from our sponsors including Eighteen t- shirts, Hope Tech prizes

Post ride bike wash (….for a little extra donation!). Free physio service at the finish.You will have access to toilets and changing facilities at the Registration Area at HVC. En route, toilet facilities are available at Edale and Hayfield. Please use these, rather than going in public.  


Helmets are mandatory. Any rider not wearing a helmet will be deemed to be not part of the event.  

Ride Responsibly:

Please obey the event staff.  You ride under your own responsibility and must ride with due care and attention at all times, so as not to endanger your personal safety as well as others. You must follow the normal rules of the trails/road at all times and be considerate and reasonable towards other trail/road users. It is your responsibility to ensure your bicycle is well maintained and road worthy. This is not a race.  


Hope Valley is a beautiful place. Please avoid dropping litter en route. You can dispose of gel wrappers etc. at feed-stations and at the finish at HVC.

Kinder Mountain Rescue will also be based at the Hayfield marshall station.

Personal Accident Insurance:   The Organisers do NOT provide personal Accident Insurance.  It is incumbent upon cyclists to provide their own insurance at their discretion.  Registering for this event confirms your acceptance of these conditions of entry.  If during the event you are involved in an incident with a third party please ensure that you pass on all your details – it is not the responsibility of the event organisers.
